Do you finish the entire painting at the event?

What makes me a bit different than many of the live wedding painters out there is that I actually don’t finish the painting at the wedding! (Let me explain why!) By limiting myself to only 6 hours to paint a relatively large painting, there will have to be some sacrifices made in terms of detail, accurate color choices and just overall depiction of your day. Normally, a painting of the sizes I offer for live painting, take me a minimum of 12+ hours as a studio painting. That being said, in the 6ish hours I am booked for your event, I finish most of the painting. I make sure to lay in the entire composition, the background and most importantly get as much of the bride and groom in as possible. It will just be missing some of the last final touches. After painting for the last 11 years, I refuse to give you a painting that I know I could make even more beautiful if I just had a few more hours. The reason I offer my live paintings this way, is that you still receive the entertainment aspect of a live painter, you get to see the painting transform on my canvas in real time, plus, by spending a bit more time on your artwork, you get an expertly painted painting to hang on your wall for years to come!

How long does it take to receive the painting once it’s finished?

The finish time really depends on how complex the requested scene is and how much I finish at the live event. However, in order to make sure it’s “picture perfect”, I normally estimate the painting to be shipped out 4-6 weeks after the event. This includes time for me to touch-up and finish the painting, allow it to dry for a couple weeks, add a varnish coat, attach wires to the back for easy hanging and prep it for shipping!

What kind of paint do you use to paint the live paintings?

I am primarily an oil painter, but I actually bring BOTH acrylic AND oil paint to your live event. I create about 40-50% of the painting in acrylic first (because it dries so fast, it allows me to work even quicker!). Then, about half way through, I switch to oil to finish the painting. Oil has such a beautiful, buttery finish and creates amazing luminosity in your painting!

Can I make customizations to my painting scene?

Yes, of course! This painting is for one of the most memorable days of your life and I want to capture it as close to what you envision as possible. If it’s a matter of removing an ugly tree in the scene or adding in a bush, adding butterflies or specific flowers, that’s no problem. As it gets more complicated, we can discuss your exact vision over our initial phone call and I’ll do my best to accommodate what you have in mind. Please keep in mind, though, I cannot change the weather of day (Ex: if the day turns out cloudy, I cannot make your entire painting as if it was a sunny day in the time restraints of a live painting).

Do you charge any travel fees?

All events within 40 miles of Fullerton, CA are INCLUDED in your base package price! Any event farther than 40 miles of Fullerton, CA will incur a small travel fee for any additional miles. Depending on the time of the ceremony and the specifics of the painting, any event farther than 40 miles may also require me staying overnight in the area. Don’t worry - you don’t need to stress about finding a place for me! (I know you’ve got a dozen things on your to-do list!) I find the average cost of bookings in the area and charge you the average night fee + food expenses and I’ll take care of booking my lodgings for your event. We will also chat about the details in our phone call together!
